SquareBars- Clean Protein Bars Review

Over the past few weeks, I have been lucky enough to try all of the flavors of the Square Organics Square Bars.  These bars are natural, gluten free, vegan, and have a really great reputation in the Instagam fitness community.  So, let’s see if they live up to the hype.

Before I start, I want to let you know that if you want to try these after reading my reviews, you can use my code FUELFORANNA FOR 20% off of your order. Ok, here’s the reviews:

Chocolate Coated Coconut
Taste: This bar tasted heavenly, with a flaky coconut base and creamy chocolate coating. If you have ever had a Mounds candy bar, it tasted a lot like that, except it is 100% healthier.

Texture: The coconut flakes in the base provided a pleasantly chewy and soft texture. I really enjoyed the texture of this bar.

Overall: 8.5/10

P.S. these are great as a crumbled topping on my Protein Ice Cream ðŸ˜‰

Chocolate Coated Cherry

Taste: The tartness of the cherry combined with the sweetness of the chocolate was quite delicious. The flavors blend nicely.

Texture: The middle super soft and delicious with chunks of dried cheeries throughout. The chocolate coating is smooth and solid, like a real chocolate bar. I really liked the texture!!

Overall: 8/10

Chocolate Covered Mint

Flavor: I am usually a fan of mint chocolate flavored things, but the mint in this bar is a bit overpowering. I wish the chocolate to mint ratio was a bit more even. The mint makes it taste almost toothpastey. However, there is no protein-y taste that is the tell-tale sign of a cheap protein bar.

Texture: the texture is soft and delicious, just like the other flavors, However, this bar is slightly drier than the other flavors. Not bad, but I prefer the other textures better.

Overall: 6/10

Chocolate Coated Peanut Butter

Taste: The peanut taste in the center is savory and natural, and the chocolate coating tastes a little bit bitter, like natural cacoa normally is. I like the natural peanut flavor, but think that overall the bar would be tastier if it was a little bit sweeter.

Texture: Like with all of these bars, there is not much to complain about in terms of texture. The bar’s inside is solid, but soft enough to pleasantly bite into it and chew with no hassle at all. Also, there are chunks of peanuts and almonds throughout. The chocolate coating is always a plus as well!

Overall: 7/10

Chocolate Coated Almond Spice

Taste: This bar tastes so so good! The chocolate coating perfectly compliments the almond spice center. The spices are not over whelming and are instead warm and inviting.

Texture: The texture of these bars is soft and delicious, like a cookie or something. It is truly unique. The chocolate coating is legit chocolate texture too, which is great.

Overall: 8.5/10

Chocolate Coated Crunch

Taste: This bar tastes like chocolate but there is something missing… When I ate it, I was left wanting more: either a deeper chocolate flavor, or a flavor to compliment the chocolate. The taste isn’t bad, it is just a little too plain in my opinion.

Texture: The texture of this bar is awesome! Since this is their only flavor with the word “Crunch” in the name, I appreciate that their are definitely little crunchy bits throughout the base. The chocolate coating is thick and has the texture of real chocolate.

Overall: 6.5/10

Notes: The reason no bar got over an 8.5/10 rating is becauses the macros for these bars are pretty high, considering their small size. They are 210-240 calories 9-11F 21-23C 11-13P for a 48g bar. However, they are organic, gluten free, and have a short ingredient list so if that’s is important a to you, then you should keep that in mind when you consider buying these!  For me, the ingredients did not make up for the high macros.

Let me know what you think of these bars, and if you have any recommendations of brands for me to try next! Thank you for reading!

XOXO,

Anna

    1. I agree! I think that trying them is probably the only way to tell if they are worth it, since they are pretty delicious, but the macros are iffy. They are just more of a “treat” than other protein bars. Hope that helps!
